(WDEF) On Monday, March 24, 2014, the City of Chattanooga will activate three new photo speed reduction units at the following locations: 1100 block of Mountain Creek Road, 4600 block of Norcross Road, and 200 block of Germantown Road. The three locations were selected due to their high level of speeding and accident rates.
From speed studies and accident reports, the three identified locations have crash rates between 1.7 and 2.5 times the statewide average for similar streets. Additionally, recent traffic studies reveal that nearly 70% of drivers are exceeding the speed limit with 11% of drivers traveling more than 10 mph above the posted speed limit.
The goal of the speed reduction initiative is to reduce accidents and improve the safety of our streets by encouraging safer driving speeds. Photo enforcement revenues fund traffic safety programs such as the City of Chattanooga Drivers Education Program.
More information regarding Speed Reduction and the City Drivers Education Program can be found at: chattanooga.gov/transportation.
