CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) – A Chattanooga man is in serious trouble after admitting to police he raped a 2-year old girl.
Michael Skellenger, 27, has been charged with one count of aggravated rape of a child and is being held on a $300,000 bond.
According to the arrest affidavit, the incident allegedly happened on July 13.
The following day, Hamilton County detectives were called to the Children Advocacy Center to investigate a possible child rape. Investigators talked to the child's grandmother who told them that Skellenger sexually assaulted her granddaughter.
When investigators spoke to the girl, she identified who touched her; how it was done and the pain she felt.
According to the arrest affidavit, a medical professional examined the child and found bruising in various parts of the girl’s body.
On July 15, a detective went to Skellenger’s home to question him about what happened. He agreed to be transported to the Sheriff’s office where investigators interviewed him.
Skellenger reportedly told detectives that he was drinking a lot on the night in question and that he didn’t remember performing any sexual acts.
Detectives reportedly asked Skellenger if he would agree to take a polygraph test on July 22 at Chattanooga police headquarters and he agreed.
At some point, the test turned into another interview where Skellenger admitted to the detective that he sexually assaulted the little girl. He even went as far as to describe in detail how he did it.
According to the arrest affidavit, Skellenger confirmed the he did clearly remember the event and that he is “a monster” for doing it.
Skellenger is expected to appear in court next Thursday at 8:30 in the morning.
