CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) - A chemical spill Monday morning in front of Chattanooga State caused significant problems on Amnicola Highway.

It was closed for hours as haz-mat crews worked to clean up a chemical called caustic soda.

The Chattanooga Fire Department says about 20 gallons sloshed out of a truck when someone forgot to close the hatch.

Amnicola was closed in both directions, but it has since re-opened.

Authorities say the chemical did not pose a threat to the community.
