Citizens of Catoosa county can now take part in a new alerting system.

Clarence Muse, Deputy Director Catoosa County Emergency Management said, "We want to be proactive in getting information out to our citizens and everything after the tornado. A lot of people didn't hear the sirens. Sirens are not designed to be heard inside." However, the new system is designed to do just that. The county received a grant after the 2011 tornadoes that will allow them to use the mass notification system called Everbridge. Muse said, "The reason we chose Everbridge is during the Boston Marathon bombing, they sent out over 3-hundred thousand messages in less than two minutes. So we have a system that is already tried and proven."

Catoosa County citizens can register online up to 14 contact devices including text messaging, mobile phones and landline phones. Muse said, "And then it asks you for the subscriptions. What do you want to be alerted of? What do you want to be notified of? You chose from a list there." Representatives say they can also generate other alerts depending on what you would like sent to you. Steven Meers, Catoosa County Resident said, "I think it'd be a good idea because people are always looking for places to get the facts of local activities and conditions. This is a reliable source that I think people would appreciate that."
