CLEVELAND, Tennessee(WDEF) - An elderly Cleveland couple made a generous donation that will help inner city children in Chattanooga.

Carol Accetta and hew husband have donated their 15-year old horse Noel to the  Scenic City Carriage. The business is run by Kenneth Jones and Michael Henderson. Both men started free a summer program on side that uses horses to distract children from gang activity. In return, children get to learn about horses and how to ride them.

"It would be motivation for them just to know that they could instill some responsibility in themselves towards an animal," Acetta said.

The elderly couple heard about Jones and Henderson during a WDEF News 12 report that aired Friday night. They were already looking to downsize but wanted to make sure that if they got rid of the horse, it would go to a good place.

"I definitely want to find a good home for Noel and something that she would be able to handle as well as participate in something and not be lonely anymore," Acetta said.

Henderson and Jones were shocked when they learned a complete stranger wanted to help their cause by donating a healthy animal.

"God works in mysterious ways and I couldn't believe it. I said people out there really listen and people out there really care," Henderson said.

@john369, my 'fluff' articles (one of which was a study done at WSU)had everything to do with inner city youth and the equine programs which benefit them which is what the news article was about. Thanks for the link: lovely pictures of healthy horses accompanied by a nice article.

Ok,before the anti-crowd sidetracks this lovely article,I have something I'd like to say.A horse pulling a carriage is NOT cruelty.Calling this couple ignorant and lowly IS cruelty.Just because you believe something is wrong doesn't make it so.I work with a carriage company in the summer,as the person to water to horses and keep crowds from bothering horse and driver if they are on break. It is the best job I've ever had in my 58 years of life. Our horses are fat, healthy and well shod. Our customers are happy and thrilled to be going on the ride of their life.Thank you to the owners for doing a wonderful thing.

NO!!!!!!!!! How CRUEL!!! Teach kids to use animals as objects, force a senior horse to work amidst the horrible carriage life treatment all the while patting themselves on the back for their ignorance! @Debbie, stop with the illusions. Your fluff articles have nothing to do with the horses being forced to lug humans sitting in a carriage which should be banned! http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/news/press/cape_may/driving-horse-drawn-carriage-not-just-a-quiet-scenic-walk/article_225e72b1-228b-56cc-a952-c2b08b24c92a.html?mode=image&photo=1

Those of you that are against the gift of this horse to this program to help inner city kids should be ashamed of yourselves. The kids and the horse will both benefit. Maybe some of you uninformed would be interested in this: http://equusmagazine.com/blog/horsing-childhood-wsu-evidence-cortisol-stress-hormone-16393 or this: http://www.worktoride.net/stage/work-ride-program-history . Thank you to the Accetta's for their generosity.

As a carriage driver, I *LAUGH* at the idea that you think we make $130 an hour. I'd be lucky to take home $70 at the end of a 12-16 hour day!

Seems this couple really needs to look into what life will be like for their poor horse. How sad for the horse.Hope it is not too late for them to make a different choice: more humane and loving for their horse.

WHO THINKS HORSES "NEED" TO WORK?? Carriage drivers making $130/ hr. - THAT'S WHO!! Animals are NOT entertainment! These horses will now be worked until the day they die!! ??????????????????????????????
