CHATTANOOGA, TN, (WDEF)-"They called us the adventure outdoor capital of the world and I think it adds to that"
Kim White President of River City Properties says they are doing all they can to live up to expectations by bringing rock climbing to downtown Chattanooga.
"It's such a growing sport we had some partners made the commitment to come in and do a climbing gym. The coolest thing about the whole project is the exterior wall, where there's going to be over 6800 square feet of climbing on the outside"
The massive complex will also feature 40 foot high indoor climbing walls on the site of the former Bijou Theatre space.
River city properties are excited about this state of the art facility which will in total be over 30,000 square feet and will also include a sports complex and a gym
Rock Creek is one of the main partners and will open a store in the complex.
Mark McKnight, Marketing Manager,"The ability to have international climbing competitions because of the heights they put in, the potential for a speed climbing comp, where you could close the street down, have lights, think ESPN, X Games, big big events"
The facility is set to open its walls and doors to climbers on October 12th.
Over 60 permanent jobs will be created.
200 construction workers were working through the rain today to keep the project on track.
