With climbing being allowed on private property those who enjoy climbing but who cannot do so on public property feel more should be done to open the mountain up to climbers as well as hikers.
Climber Michael Wurzel says "The town has a ban on rock climbing on the town's property, and as a member of the South Eastern Climbers Coalition, we support opening climbing here on the town's bluff".
His view is shared by local resident Britt Reynolds,
"Just like sports such as football and soccer or riding a bicycle, necessary precautions are taken and its something that can be easily managed."
However Honna Rogers the signal mountain town manager believes that climbing on public property may already stretch the areas limited resources,
"We do not have a very large on-duty staff for police and fire and if there is an accident and they are on the scene then they are not going to be able to respond to other incidents in our town."
