A room full of eager Hixson residents came to listen and find out who they should elect for their district.
Common subjects of concern for the community were taxes, crime, development, and roads.
Resident Rob Wilbanks said, "The things are falling apart. Big Ridge is a mess and I hear that a lot, I'm tired of getting my car bottomed out every time I go around there."
WDEF News 12's own John Mercer was there to moderate as each candidate answered questions on how they would improve their district.
Priscilla Simmons said. "I know there's plenty of reason for cutting taxes and I have a real respect for the taxpayers dollars and I don't like to see the money misused."
Roger Tuder said, "We've got to touch personal safety by appreciating our police, I think we gotta have more police on the street. I also think we gotta think about property values and certainly think we gotta have accountability and transparency."
Pam Ladd said, "We also have monthly security meeting with your police department. I encourage all the associations to please attend those meetings. That's where you can talk to the police in your district about what you think about the crime."
Ken Smith said, "We've had a 191 percent storm water fee increase and a 19 percent property tax increase in the last several years and not one resident I've spoken to feels like they've gotten everything out of it."
Jerry Mitchell said, "We also need to make city government more responsible and more efficient. I believe we also need to get back in the education business."
