HIXSON, TN, (WDEF)-New stores, new jobs and a sense of rebirth were all talked about at the Northgate Mall Reopening Ceremony Thursday Morning.

Alan Lebovitz, CBL and Associates,"This is the heart of Hixson it's right here at 153 and Hixson Pike, so it's terrific traffic"

Lebovitz also added that it's not just new retail stores that will provide employment.

"The opportunity exists for lots of new restaurants to enter this market"

The new mall plans to be family friendly and cater more towards the  Hixson Community.

Ken Smith,Councilman District 3, Hixson,"What they are also doing is bringing a more family orientated environment to the mall as a whole not just in the retail aspects as a whole but the actual atmosphere of the mall"

Smith feels the mall could be the catalyst of change that Hixson has been calling out for.

"New businesses coming into the area, bringing more consumers into this area, residents also, it's very important and extends into new jobs which is the critical aspect"

A new state of the art play area was also opened at 11 AM.

Mother of 2, Vanessa Moss,"They've been excited about playing here, we talked about it last night that's all he's talked about since"

Burlington Coat Factory, Old Navy, Michaels and Ross Dress are all big name stores that are part of the development.
