Local volunteers are helping kids with their education, thanks to the United Way.
Thursday marked the organizations annual "Day of Action."
Adults spent the day at various locations helping local kids.
At the Westside Recreation Center, the volunteers focused on reading.
Kelly Nave of the United Way explains why this event is so important.
"We know if we start working on education with young children, and working with teaching them to read; mentoring them through the education process, and tutoring them when they need help, we know these kids will be successful."
Henry Crutcher was one of the adult Volunteers.
"We have no idea how much we impact, not just children who are the same color as us, but children all around. But all children need that impression from a man."
The "Day of Action" is part of an event that the United Way is doing across the world.
