It is a Christmas present that does not come in red or green wrapping paper.
No, for Darcey Young, her present this year comes in the form of a new dental savings plan.
Young adds, "It has definitely helped out. We have the opportunity to buy more Christmas presents with the savings."
Young, like many, has recently been laid off.
Young adds, "We lost our insurance."
And insurance through her husbands job is out of the question because it is a small family owned paving company.
Young says, "The premiums are astronomical, they're outrageous for the amount of employees that we have."
So, when Young stumbled upon what is called the Quality Dental Plan, she said it really was a wish come true.
Young adds, "There was no deductible, and that was the driving force for going with it."
We looked into the plan started here by Doctor Angela Lunn, and found it costs a flat fee of $345, and $199 for each additional family member.
With that you get several exams, x-rays, teeth whitening, and 20 percent off other dental procedures.
Doctor Lunn says, "This takes away the middle man, so we can offer the savings to our patient. We don't have to pay the cost of administration."
It is the only plan of its kind in Tennessee.
Doctor Lunn says she started it in Chattanooga because she was seeing too many patients like Young.
Doctor Lunn adds, "We wanted to give something back at a time when so many people are struggling.
Struggling with deductibles and dentist bills is a battle Young, says, she will not have to fight thanks to this new plan.
Now, we want to add, you cannot use this program if you already have insurance.
