EAST RIDGE, TN, (WDEF)-Commissioner Tim Boyd,"The Gas pump is less than 30 paces from the building, I think that's a danger"

Commissioner Boyd says the safety of residents in East Ridge with fireworks stores so close to their homes is his main concern this holiday season.

Tim Boyd,"95% of the damage is done from the initial explosion which is exemplified just a couple of weeks by that warehouse that exploded in Canada"

With Fireworks only on sale in the area since last summer Mayor Brent Lambert says residents should remain calm.

Mayor Brent Lambert of  East Ridge,"I wouldn't be afraid to go to a gas station, to the movies, wherever that may be next to one of these fireworks stores"

Fireworks stores managers in the Tennessee Valley say their businesses help the local economy.

Cooper Bolton, TNT Fireworks,"Some of the purchases are smaller but I think because people are able to pick up a few items, we have seen a lot of repeat costumers and we are building a loyalty I think."

Keesha Woodward, Dixieland Fireworks, "People coming from Atlanta, from Knoxville, spending money here in the city of East Ridge."

Jared Aponte of Phantom Fireworks,"Use an extended lighter, to light your products never ever stick your hands, face or any part of your body over a firework, ever"

Dixieland Fireworks added they have spent more than 40,000 dollars on sprinkler systems and told News 12, East Ridge stores are prepared for major fires and evacuations.
