CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) - It was on June 30th of this year when Rome Ali,31, of St. Louis had a life altering experience that put him in the hospital.

Ali was with a group of hikers when he fell while rope climbing on Lookout Mountain. It took crews nearly two hours to rescue him.

Ali suffered head trauma from the fall and had to be air lifted to Erlanger Hospital where has since been recovering from his injures.

Close family and close friends have recently been in contact with WDEF and granted an exclusive interview.

Ali's brother Fahmy Hassan said Ali has undergone two surgeries to release pressure in the brain. Friends and family said they expect Ali to have a very long and challenging recovery.

"The doctor said there was really not much more they they could do. He is currently stable and he is doing alright right now but it's an ongoing battle," said Hassan.

A facebook page called Please Help Rome along with another website called Help  Rome have been set up to help the family collect donations. Ali's medical bills are adding up and he did not have health insurance.

The family is also trying to figure out a way to have Ali transferred to a medical facility closer to his home in Missouri.
