Chattanooga firefighters battled a large blaze in North Chattanooga Wednesday night.

It happened at a home on the 8-hundred block of Dallas Road just before sunset. The house was vacant and fully engulfed in flames when the first firefighters arrived.  It was too late to enter the structure, so firefighters set up to fight the fire defensively to keep it from endangering other structures. No injuries were reported. The thick plume of black smoke could be seen all over the Chattanooga area. Susan Flanagan, Chattanooga said, "We were sitting having dinner at the Boathouse and all of a sudden we looked outside and saw a giant black smoke coming. You could see it all the way over there. It was just billowing out."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
