Georgia residents worried about foreclosure got some helpful tips from government agencies this afternoon in Dalton.
The event targeted homeowners trying to complete the HomeSafe Georgia program. That program targets those struggling to make mortgage payments. A new state grant now allows those who did not qualify in the past to get in on some financial relief.
"They want to get the word out that even if you have been denied, you are still struggling to make your mortgage payment and you've been denied for the Making Home Affordable program, that there are new guidelines and you could potentially qualify under the Tier II," said Gaile Jennings with the Dalton-Whitfield Community Development Corporation.
State officials also say to watch out for scammers. If someone asks you for money to prepare paperwork it's probably a scam. Your local HUD office provides the same service free of charge
