ROSSVILLE, GA (WDEF-TV) A local company is giving you the option to feed your family fish and vegetables that you raise and grow right at home.

HATponics has created a box that allows people who live in the inner-city to farm from a box. This system is two parts. The bottom portion allows you to raise fish, while the top portion is a garden.

This system is aimed to allow a family of four to supplement some of their groceries.

CEO, Ryan Cox, understands the rising cost of groceries and rising concerns of genetically modified food.

“It gives them the opportunity to reduce their food cost,” he said. “And know a lot more about where their foods are coming from.”

While these systems can help those who can afford them, Cox is on a bigger mission. He wants to help put a dent in the world hunger problem.

“For each one of the units we are able to put out on the local market in a retail format, our goal is to donate a very basic model to a family in need,” he said.

These are not just for the families in the Chattanooga area; he wants to reach around the world.

He adds, “We want to achieve our goal of feeding 20 million people by the year 2020.”

This self-contained ecosystem can travel anywhere.

The prices vary depending on how decorative you want it to be. He says it’s very easy to maintain as well.

“The maintenance is basically you feed the fish and plant the plants.”

If you don’t think you can kill and eat fish that you raised then you can always keep the as a pet.
