CHATTANOOGA, TN, (WDEF)-In the space of half an hour the blaze had reached the attic of 4502 Kemp drive.

Timothy McCoy, Neighbor and Rescuer,"I think he was trying to do some cooking  and the house just went on fire and he got burned all over his body, just third degree burns everywhere"

McCoy said he just acted on impulse when he smelt the smoke and saw the flames.

"We rushed in pulled him out and set him on the front porch, the fire dept came, the police came, we got him out to the street, then they rushed him to the ambulance"

Bruce Garner of Chattanooga Fire Dept says they still don't know the exact cause of the fire.

"Right now we have a couple of fire investigators on the scene"

He added that the burns were severe for the elderly man.

"He was transported to Erlanger and paramedics with EMS tell me he will likely be flown to the Burn Center in Augusta Georgia shortly"=

His wife received some burns to her hands when trying to save him.
