Jared Polis of Colorado and Earl Blumenauer of Oregon hope to introduce two bills in the House of Representatives that could change the way marijuana is used and distributed across the country.

Dr Timothy Jennings is the president-elect of the Tennessee Psychiatric Association and does not believe legalization would be good for those in the Tennessee Valley.

"The consequences to the brain are the same whether it's legal or illegal, and so if you have more people smoking, you will have more brain damaging effects, and one of those affects is that it increases the chance of psychosis and so we would have more mental illness in our region if we have more people smoking marijuana."

Alcohol is a mind altering drug that causes more harm and misery on this planet than any other imbibed substance. Heroin is 600 times cheaper now than it was in the 70's and it's easier for a kid to get heroin than it is alcohol since drug dealers aren't carding people before they deal. When you criminalize a substance, you create two things: criminals and a black market. Since it's a criminal enterprise, then the criminals set the prices, the quality, the quantity, and they police and maintain their criminal enterprise with force. The profits from a black market enterprise are huge and there are tons of people willing to risk it for the money so every time you shut down one criminal, there are plenty more willing to fill that void and make that money. Look, just watch Penn & Teller's Showtime series episode entitled "The War On Drugs" - they did the research and didn't rely on some faceless therapist that obviously has no idea what he's talking about.
