The sun was shining most of the day over the northeastern U.S....but the cleanup from Hurricane Sandy is just beginning.
Damage estimates range above 50 billion dollars, but in the meantime, individuals are trying to cope with the disaster, and many of them need help.
We are just now getting a close look at how powerful Hurricane Sandy really was.
It ripped into the country's most populous area, leaving destruction from West Virginia to Maine.
And now the recovery is underway with a lot of outside help.
What can you do?
MAJOR ALGEROME NEWSOME, THE SALVATION ARMY "The main thing that's needed is prayer. There are a lot of folks who experienced a tragedy and loss of life and homes and so forth."
The local Salvation Army has sent supplies and personnel to the stricken area, but the need is great for monetary donations that can be used for any purpose by the volunteers and staff.
MAJOR ALGEROME NEWSOME "Many of them have been affected, but because the Salvation Army is a nationwide group we have enough resources across the nation to pull as needed."
The Chattanooga branch of the American Red Cross has 30 volunteers on-scene.

In addition to outside help, neighbor is helping neighbor in many areas as floodwaters subside.
But there always those who try to take advantage of your generosity.

Or today ..On-line..the internet is where you have a lot of fraudulent activity..saying donate to me or this organization ..and we'll help."

Now, a day after superstorm Sandy, life is getting back to normal.
But it'll still take a lot of assistance from fellow Americans.
