SIGNAL MOUNTAIN, Tennessee(WDEF) - Rescue crews have rescued a man who fell from a cliff on Signal Mountain.

According to Hamilton County EMS public information officer, Amy Maxwell, a 21 year old man went hiking with friends Saturday morning on Signal Point Trail. He stopped to overlook the beautiful scenery and fell 30 feet down the rocky bluff. Friends called 9-1-1 to help the man who sustained a head injury.

The rescue only took 30 minutes and he was transported to Erlanger Medical Center in unknown condition.

Authorities have not identified the man and it's not clear if he's a resident of Signal Mountain.

Signal Point Trail is a National Park and is closed due to the government shut-down. "There are signs posted at the trail entrance that the park was closed" said Signal Mountain fire chief Eric Mitchell.
