CHATTANOOGA, TN, (WDEF)-An icon, a national treasure and now an eye sore according to Mayor Berke's office.

Travis McDonough, Chief of Staff,"That given the delinquent payments to the city and the recent layoffs and the importance of this issue we are making sure that this vessel doesn't fall into disrepair like the barge just down the river"

McDonough added that the boat owners are in debt and owe the city over 10,000 dollars in rent money.

The owners of the Delta Queen acknowledge that the boat is in need of repair and are incredibly upset by what's being said in local media

Leah Anne Ingram, Owner,"it's 190 dollars according to our internal audit and we have provided all that documentation to the Mayor's office

Chattanooga boat enthusiasts are concerned by the potential removal of the vessel.

Captn Frank Davey,"That Our Mayor finally comes to grips with why he was elected and trying to tear down Chattanooga should not be one of them"

Bob Doak of Chattanooga Visitors Bureau believes a congressional vote on the boat in the coming weeks will keep it on our river.

"She is in need of some repair, renovation and  hopefully if Congressional approval comes through that will happen, so American can begin to enjoy the Delta Queen once again"

Campaigns and petitions are running in an effort to keep the boat on the river before it's due for removal at the end of the month.

I can't wait for the truth to come out concerning this. First it was they were behind on rent (not true) now a eye sore (great venue). I am guessing this is nothing more than good old boy politics at it's finest. If Andy gets his way how long before one of his campaign donation pals is using that property for something they want?
