A new transportation program is helping seniors living in food deserts get to the grocery store.
Several senior homes on the Westside are considered food deserts because they're more than a mile from a full-service grocery store.
So this month Alexian Brothers Senior Neighbors launched their community transportation program. Using a wheel-chair accessible bus, the organization will bring groups in food deserts to grocery stores nearest them.
The bus will pick up residents, get them home and help with bags.
Alexian Brothers hopes to coordinate two trips a day throughout the area.
It is looking for grants and community partners to help fund the program.
