If the rain doesn't get to you, the cold just might.
With temperatures outside and in the water around 46 degrees, local divers took their annual New Years Day plunge for the 16th year in a row.
William Sisk has been diving about a year, and it's his first adventure into the Tennessee river.
"I got two or three guys here that've done this a lot so you learn to trust people and use them and they'll help you along,"said Sisk.
"We like to do this. It's a fun way to ring in the new year," said diver Ricky Boyd.
Wetsuits on, tanks loaded up, and flippers ready; the team of four makes it into the swift moving river.
The current was so strong they almost had to dive at a different location, and though it was a bit challenging, they made it on down.
"Feels good, and it's not nearly as cold as you think it is," said Sisk.
Diver Carey Smith said, "The river moves faster than it appears and when you reach out to grab one of the columns, it's hard to hang on."
It might not be everyone's idea of a fun tradition, but these guys say they'll go again next year.
Sisk said, "You learn something every time you go. And the more you learn the more fun your gonna have."
