A new environmentally friendly program launched in the Scenic City Thursday morning.
Green Trips will offer incentives to participants willing to change their means of transportation. Jenny Park, Senior Planner said, "It's a 3 year pilot program designed to promote transportation options, and give people more information about other ways to get around than just driving alone." The Green Trips program promotes biking, walking, CARTA and carpooling. The primary goals are to reduce car traffic in the Scenic City and improve air quality. Park said, "Our target is basically to reduce one percent of our current emissions and so the reason for the rewards program are where people can log their trips, so we can document the emissions reductions."
The program can be accessed online where you can log your trips. The more you log, the more rewards you can accumulate from local businesses. Park said, "We have rewards from Bike Chattanooga. We have rewards from the Nature Center, Taco Mamacita, Urban Stack, Milk and Honey, CARTA so we have a lot of options also Sports Barn." Green Trips also offers an additional program where business's can join and employees can benefit. Elizabeth Hammitt, EPB representative said, "EPB is a pilot partner with the program and we are really excited to join. Its allowing us to take our current corporate sustainability efforts to the next level at no cost to the organization."
