"Ever since January 5th, when Mr. Masengale actually took possession of our vehicle and led officers on a high speed pursuit, we have been looking for him."
That pursuit finally came to an end early Thursday morning after a nearly week long search that stretched through Bradley, Meigs, and Hamilton counties.
"We received a tip from someone letting us know that Mr. Masengale and Amber Millway were at a residence on Harrison Pike which is in Bradley County. Officers went to that residence, when they came into contact with Chrystal Smith who is the sister of Amber Milliway. Amber then came to the door, investigators talked to her were asking her questions about Masengale and came to find out fortunately that Masengale was in the house," says Cleveland Police Department PIO Evie West.
Milliway was with Masengale at the time of the initial stop on the 5th. Upon entering the home, Officers found the fugitive hiding behind an entertainment center.
"He was still attempting to hide behind an entertainment center there and then refused to come out when the investigators asked him to and then tried to push over the entertainment center on the officers. They were able to get Mr. Masengale in custody with minimal effort. Now Mr. Masengale is facing six felony charges and five misdemeanor charges and Miss Milliway is facing two felony charges."
Officer West says Masengale's flight from the law will cost him more in the long run.
"Because he chose to make a bad choice and steal a police car and go on a high speed chase, he was evading police I mean all those are felony charges which they stack the time on. To my knowledge he had some felony warrants out of Hamilton County as well so it looks like he probably won't be getting out for a period of time."
The investigation is still on-going.
The Meigs County Sheriff's Office has charged Trey Milliway, brother of Amber Milliway with false report, for allegedly misleading police about the whereabouts of Masengale in the days leading up to his capture.
