CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) - Police are investigating two separate incidents on Bonny Oaks Drive that resulted in both a fatality and 11 children going to the hospital.

Tuesday morning around 6:45, Michael L. Godwin, of Chattanooga was killed when he was struck by a truck. It happened on the 3900 block of Bonny Oaks Drive.

Witnesses told police that Godwin was running across the street when he was hit.

"The truck tried to swerve to avoid the pedestrian but was unable to and struck the pedestrian. He was taken to a local hospital where he passed away as a result of his injuries," said Chattanooga Police public information Nathan Hartwig.

So far, no charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.

Several miles up the road from the site of where the pedestrian was killed, a school bus loaded with Tyner Middle School children collided with a semi.

It happened just after 8:30 on the 6500 block of Bonny Oaks Drive where the school bus rear-ended a truck that was sitting at a red light.

"After talking to the driver, he stated there was a disturbance on the bus with some of the students and he was monitoring that but when he looked up, it was too late avoid the collision," Hartwig said.

11 children were taken to the hospital with minor injures.
