CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF)-- The Scenic City made national news as President Barack Obama took his plan to create more jobs to a Chattanooga audience.
The President stirred the Amazon employees and other guests at the half hour speech at the Amazon Fulfillment center at Enterprise South.
More than two-thousand people waited for two hours to hear the speech,
billed as "reaching out to republicans to break the gridlock."

It was without question an old-fashioned, rousing, animated, political speech filled with punch-lines and jabs at republican opponents of his policies.
Many topics brought cheers and loud applause, especially when he talked about taking care of America's middle class, and creating jobs to end the recession.

" ..."Hello Chattanooga"....more cheers."

President Obama received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from the 2000 Amazon employees, taking the podium after a tour of the million square foot plant, And visiting with local democratic mayor Andy Berke.
His message was simple during a 20 minute speech.

PRESIDENT "....that's why I'm visiting towns like this lay out my ideas for how we can build on a cornerstone of what it means to be middle-class Americans. A good job with good wages, a good education, a home to call your own, affordable health care that's there for you when you get sick".

The president pushed for a hike in the minimum wage, a simplified tax code, assistance to the long-time unemployed and increasing exports.
He also praised the American auto industry

PRESIDENT "....saved an auto industry...and thanks to GM and the UAW working together we're bringing jobs back here to America including 1800 autoworkers in Spring Hill, Tennessee...1800 workers on the job today where a plant was once closed."

Ironically, the president made no mention of the Volkswagen plant only a quarter mile away..that has created 2500 jobs plus suppliers since 2008 in Chattanooga.
The president criticized what he called republican obstructionist tactics.

PRESIDENT "I'm willing to work with republicans on reforming our corporate tax code as long as we use the money from transforming to a simpler tax system for a significant investment in creating middle class jobs....that's the deal. applause"

It was hard to tell from today's audience that the tri-state area went heavily against Obama in both of his campaigns.
And he acknowledged that , quote "politics for Obama aren't always great in Tennessee", adding that "I've run my last campaign...I don't need to spin."
