CLEVELAND, TN,(WDEF)-For over half a century Cleveland Speedway has entertained racing fans from across the south.
However a number of noise pollution complaints were submitted over the weekend for the first time in nearly a year.
Steve Hixson, Former Cleveland Speedway PR Director,"I do have sympathy especially for the woman that had the complaint over the weekend , it's not a thing that happens very often, we race between march through November pretty much every Saturday night when the weather allows"
While some residents described the speedway as an eye sore and a source of noise pollution others say it's part and parcel of living in the area
Dana Gassawy local resident,"if I had a family with kids, it bother me more, it's pretty loud even until one a clock in the morning most weekends"
Jacob Howark, local resident, "usually I just listen to music or something"
Sharon smith, local resident, "I have lived here all of my life and that race track has always been part of my growing up and unless someone brings it to my attention I rarely ever hear it"
Hixson added that despite the complaints he feels the track brings in revenue to East TN.
"They stay here in the Chattanooga area, Cleveland area, when they stay so that brings in dollars to the local economy"
Staff at both Cleveland and East Ridge tracks told News 12 that the only time races run late is due to bad weather and that usually only happens once or twice a year.
