RED BANK, Tennessee(WDEF) - A weekend apartment fire that killed three pets and left 10 families displaced is also threatening the life of a burn victim.

WDEF has learned that Thomas McDaniel was taken to a Georgia burn center in critical condition after he accidentally set himself on fire.

It happened at the Ravenscroft Apartments around 2 A.M.

Red Bank fire investigators said McDaniel was sitting in his recliner in the living room when he lit a cigarette while using his oxygen therapy equipment. He was eventually engulfed in flames which according to investigators caused his clothes to ignite along with surrounding combustibles.

By the time firefighters arrived, the flames had spread through half the building.

Back in late July, McDaniel had survived an apartment fire inside the same building. During that incident, a blaze was started by unattended cooking in an upstairs apartment. His apartment suffered smoke and water damage.

Several days later, he and his wife along with the other fire victims were temporarily placed in other properties. The Aaron's Rent to Own store in Hixson donated furniture to McDaniel because he had special medical needs.

Once the building was repaired and remodeled, McDaniel and his wife moved back into their apartment but it was short lived as another fire destroyed everything they owned.
