After much planning and fund raising, Chattanooga's Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Auditorium is under construction.
Crews started demolition and renovation of the Community Theatre.
We went along for the Hard Hat Media tour this morning.
This is the first of three phases for work on the community theater.
Soldiers from the 212th Transportation Company are volunteering to work on it.
Right now they're taking all the chairs out on the main floor.
They'll work way their way up to the balcony.
This is all to give more people access to the theater.
Admiral Vance Frye,Co-Chair Auditorium Project
"It has been out of compliance with the disability act. This phase will bring it into compliance, it will make a very very nice theater."
The work will as a concession stand and elevators
It will take about 12 months for the first phase to be completed.
