CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee(WDEF) - Police believe the Wednesday night fatal shooting inside a Bilo grocery store parking lot was the result of a robbery gone bad.

It happened on the 4500 block Hwy 58.

The fatal shooting occurred inside a parked car shortly after the victim and the alleged robber met inside the parking lot.

The victim told investigators he was trying to purchase several computer tablets when the alleged robber pulled out a gun on him. The two fought each other inside the car when a another man attempted to pull the victim out of the vehicle. Neither that man nor the alleged robber may have been aware that the victim was also armed.

"They were fighting and he fired shots to protect himself," said Chattanooga Police Sgt. Wayne Jefferson.

The alleged robber was left dead in the car and his alleged accomplice showed up at the hospital in critical condition.

Police say they're in the process of filing arrest warrant against the accomplice. They also warn that this investigation is far from over.

WDEF expects detectives to release more information on this case very soon.

That's not a "robbery gone bad". The attack was stopped and now we don't have to worry about the deceased robbing others.
