RED BANK, Tennessee(WDEF) -  A stabbing suspect is on the run and his mother is pleading for her son to turn himself in.

"Please baby boy, turn yourself in and get the help. I'll be there, your dad and our whole family will be there. You have to get help. You have to be the man you were raised to be," said Darla Ledford.

Ledford is a concerned mother who is pleading for her son to turn himself in to authorities. Wednesday morning, police say Steven Conner, 23, of Red Bank allegedly stabbed another man after the two got into an altercation over Conner's girlfriend.

It happened at a home on the 3700 block of Lamar Avenue.

According to police, the fight started after Conner's Girlfriend started flirting with the alleged victim.

A neighbor who witnessed the fight but wished not to be identified said the two men were punching each other near the front porch. At some point, Conner allegedly pulled out a weapon and stabbed the other man. Ledford has been in contact with the victims family and confirms his condition.

"He's ok. It missed his kidney. He apparently was beating up my son and he admitted to that," Ledford said.

Red Bank Police made arrangements with Conner to turn himself in by Wednesday afternoon but Chief Tim Christol said Conner reneged on the arrangement and chose to go on the run. Conner reportedly contacted his mother via text before cutting all communication.

"He said it's a miss understanding and that he was in fear for his life," Ledford said.

Ledford admits her son has a known drug problem and is already on probation. She fears the longer he continues to hide from police, the more trouble he will get himself into. She asked that he do the right thing.

"Please turn yourself in. You've already made arrangements. You know that you have to do this. Don't keep running," she said.

WDEF talked to neighbors who said Conner, his girlfriend and the alleged victim never lived at the home and that the three recently started showing up there at night and in the early morning. One neighbor said there has been some suspicious activity at the home that always takes place at night. According to police, there was only three people at the home when the altercation happened and the owner was not there.
