If they could vote, some local youngsters would be well-prepared to make an informed choice...thanks to a school project.
The 8th graders at East Hamilton took a close look at some of the biggest issues in this election.
News 12's Nordia Epps has more on what they learned.
These posters show two months of work by 8th graders at East Hamilton Middle School.
Rachel Dzik, 8th Grader, "We made a bunch of posters to inform the voters on what the president, the different candidates are going to do for America if they become president."
The students tackled issues like Obamacare, The keystone Pipeline, No Child Left Behind and even the Death Penalty.
Mac Brower, 8th Grader, "I learned that they had different opinions on a lot of things. They agree a lot, but they have different opinions on certain topics."
The students tell me it was an eye opening experience that revealed some surprising discoveries.
Colin Fletcher, 8th Grader, "One thing I didn't know is that there are three different parties other than Democrats and Republicans."
Afshin Valani, 8th Grader, "I actually agreed with the third party candidates more than Romney and Obama so that was pretty shocking to me."
Brae Allen, 8th Grader, "I leaned that some candidates don't know about these big issues if they're for or against it."
Emma Mangan, 8th Grader, "The actual poster just doing it, I got a lot more educated on the opinions."
And that's the whole idea behind the project, according to 8th grade American History teacher Katy Russell
Katy Russell, 8th Grader American History Teacher , "One of our main goals in American History class is to create effective citizens and we hope that the students have learned to focus on the issues in an election and then make their decision about who they'll vote for as opposed to as I like to say to my students, who has the best hair or who has the coolest name."
The students used the posters for a museum walk where all 1900 students at East Hamilton could learn about the candidates and their issues.
The East Hamilton students also held a mock election.
The results will be released on Election Day.
