SODDY DAISY, Tennessee(WDEF) - The search for a man suspected of killing his wife has ended after he took his own life.

Since Sunday morning, Hamilton County Sheriff deputies were looking for Terry Releford, 34, of Soddy Daisy. Deputies believed Releford killed his wife who has been identified as Tammi Releford, 35.

The man hunt began when authorities were called to the couples home on the 8900 block of Lovell Road. When deputies entered the home, they found Tammy Releford dead from blunt force trauma to the head. Her husband had already left the scene.

According to a sheriff's report, Terry Releford bound his wife's two children from a previous relationship, before killing his pregnant wife. One of the children managed to break free and call for help.

Authorities said the children were uninjured during the event.

"They were taken into custody by human resources and after we did an interview that they were released to family members," said Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond.

Deputies spent the entire day searching for the victim's husband and were able to locate him in Gordon County Georgia where he was holding up in hotel. By Monday morning, Hamilton County deputies along with Gordon County authorities moved on the suspects location where they found him already dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound.

"The weapon that was used as part of the original crime was the weapon that he took his life with," said the Sheriff Hammond.

WDEF talked to the couples neighbors who said Terry and Tammi Releford met  last June and got married in August. Neighbors also said there were no visible signs that the couple was having problems.

According to a WDEF investigation, Terry Releford was a registered sex offender who was convicted on two counts of aggravated rape in 1997. It's not clear if his wife knew about his criminal history.

Sheriff Hammond said despite Releford taking his own life, the investigation into what happened will continue because there are so many questions about the case that need answers.

Well if that is not an admission of guilt I don't know what is. Saved us all in the end from having to put 12 people through the task of determining if he should have the death penalty.
