It's called "Ready Tennessee" and local emergency officials hope the new mobile Smart phone app will have Tennessee ready when disaster strikes.....
"We're really just kind of on the cusp of where we can have everybody almost always linked in to the information now with more and more people they have smart phones," says George Mathews, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
"Last year we experienced the most Presidential disasters of any state in the country so we think this is the absolutely the right time to roll out an app like this. It's good information, it's a good tool for the public and we hope more people will use it," says TEMA Spokesperson Jeremy Heidt.
The new app will put information from the National Weather Service, TDOT, the Red Cross, and more in the palm of your hand.
"We trust the public with this information, its publicly available in a lot of places but it's not simple to access. We decided because we have the capability to put it together in one place that it was a good thing for us to do for the public," says Heidt.
"The Ready TN is a step in that direction towards getting information to people and having a resource for information for people to know what to do when things are about to happen," adds Mathews.
And a step closer to saving lives, if another severe weather event like last April's tornados strikes again.
"We had people that took action to save their lives by getting those warnings out and by heeding those warnings so I think our job of making people aware of the situation they could face and the steps they can do to protect themselves makes our community so much safer."
