The East Ridge Council was prepared to discuss Tim Gobble's City Manager contract, but Gobble came up with his own agreement before the meeting instead.
Mayor Brent Lambert said, "I walked into city hall today at five o clock and was met in the back hallway here and they said hey we're having an executive session, come on in."
He said says in the session, Gobble turned in his proposal for resignation and didn't even stay for the vote.
Three council members voted to approve it, the mayor and council member Sewell voted against it.
"I just feel its unfortunate that he's been forced out." said Lambert, "I didn't want him to go and that's really why I voted no.  I'd like for him to still be here and still be doing the job."
Many residents like Francis Pope however, are glad Gobble is out.
"I think it's the best thing for the city that we get this behind us and move on to better things and better days in East Ridge," said Pope.
In Gobble's resignation agreement, he will continue to be paid until September, which the mayor says is around $12,000 a month.
He'll also keep health benefits for 7 months and the city will have to defend him on any legal actions against him.
