U. S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis commends Chattanooga State Community College for helping to put people back to work.
She toured the campus today to see the programs that a $3 million federal grant will support.
The money establishes the Tennessee Valley Institute for Materials, Joining and Training.
It focuses on preparing students for jobs in Non-destructive Evaluation and Materials Joining.
In just 4 to 6 months students can get portable certificates for high-paying, high-demand jobs.
Hilda Solis, U.S. Secretary of Labor, "Walking through the classrooms most of the students I talked to said they already had job offers or were already employed and could now look forward to career advancement and obviously a safe landing at a safe place."
Chatt State President Jim Catanzaro says they have 100% job placement for students in these fields.
