Hutcheson Medical Center is the scene of a crime of passion Friday night.
Walker County officials confirm a man walked into the Intensive Care Unit and began shooting.
The shooter targeted 2 women, killing both.

“A male shooter came to the hospital to the ICU unit, fire a number of shots. At this time we have one fatality,” says Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson.

Now after the shooter opened fire here at Hutcheson Medical center on Friday. It didn't take long for authorities to figure out who he was.

“We assume that he left the hospital as soon as the shooting occurred, drove down to the Fort Oglethorpe police department which is located about a mile away from here and turned himself in so he is in custody,” says Wilson.

Corky Jewell with Hutcheson Medical center says this is the first incident the hospital has faced of this nature.
Officials say the hospital acted according to their disaster plan.
But it still poses the question of how someone can get into the hospital with a gun.
“if you get someone who is of a mindset to do someone harm they will find a way to do it. So I don't feel that that's an issue of this place being unsafe,” says Jewell.

The hospital was cleared just before 9-pm and will resume normal operation as soon as possible.

I agree with previous comment. There are no area hospitals that I am aware of that have metal dectors at entrances. Pretty sure a hand gun fits in a jacket pocket. What I would like to know is, "How did we all of sudden become Hutcheson Medical Center when it's bad press but we are Erlanger at Hutcheson for good?" Hmm....Erlanger wanting to keep their name out of it now? They were eager to put it there a couple months ago.

Haven't noticed a hospital around here with any kind of features to keep out people with guns, so, not hard to figure this one out. As for why he did it, could have been medical problems for the two women he shot, i.e., his wife and mom-in-law, or divorce, or any number of things. We will find out, I am sure, as more details come out.
