Hutcheson Medical Center needs a plan, and Walker County Commissioner Bebe Heiskell says they've got one.
Hutcheson Doctors presented a letter to the board of directors on Wednesday asking Walker, Dade, and Catoosa Counties to fully fund the hospital's debt.
But Heiskell says they've only just begun accepting proposals from prospective partners or leasers so it's too early to decide on a long term finance.
"What I'm saying is, we want to fully fund this debt but we want to know how it's going to be paid back," said Heiskell.
So, Commissioner Heiskell is proposing a short term finance of 3.4 million dollars.
Just enough money to get them through the bidding process.
They should know who is interested in leasing or partnering with the hospital by October 25th.
"After we see the proposals that come in, we'll know how to proceed with funding the long term debt of the hospital," Heiskell,"
but Walker needs Dade or Catoosa County on board to help back the loan, preferably both.
"Dade county has already said they don't want to sign on to this until they find out if there's a lease agreement to cover the debt, and Catoosa I think they'll support, that they're as committed as Walker," Heiskell said.
