Herman Devoer, the suspect's friend, says, "I'm sick of it. I'm sick of it. It's too much chaos going on."
Despite being surrounded by churches, Devoer says, trouble always seems to find its way to his small community called Churchville.
The latestst victim is Nicole Dupree, 35, or better known to her close friends as "Lil Bit."
Teresa Cal, the victim's friend, adds, "She was real sweet and nice and kind, trying to look for a job, and trying to get back on the right track and all that."
But before getting back on track, police say Dupree was shot to death on Citico Avenue around nine Saturday night.
A little more than six hours later her boyfriend, Willie Eddie Witcher, 56, was charged with criminal homicide.
Devoer adds, "Just shocked me. I didn't know what to think."
Devoer says Witcher lost his job a couple of weeks ago, and it was putting stress on his relationship with Dupree.
Deover adds, "Too much pressure on him."
Dupree's friends agree, saying that is one reason Dupree was aggressively looking for a job.
Cal says, "She was trying to find a job to help out with the bills and stuff."
Chattanooga Police believe the shooting is domestic related.
However, friends on both sides say that is hard to swallow.
Devoer says, "No signs of domestic abuse."
Cal adds, "It was no problems down there, and every time I saw her she kept a smile on her face, so anything was happening down there, I didn't know about it. She kept it in."
But there is a lot that goes on behind closed doors.
Our investigation into Witcher found that he was arrested 17 times prior to this incident, and at least a half a dozen of those charges are assault charges.
Devoer adds, "Bad feeling you know, it's a shame the way they're killing one another."
And it is a shame he says that a community with so many steeples, could be steeped in so much crime.
Witcher was also charged with tampering with evidence and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Dupree we are told did not have children, but does have family that is coming in from the Atlanta area.
Cal adds, "We're going to miss you Lil Bit.
