A Tyner Academy student apparently has the law on her side in a dispute over reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. The school suspended Quinesha Garrett for remaining silent during the daily Pledge. And that put her graduation in doubt. But her attorney argues that state laws says schools cannot force students to recite the pledge.. As long as they do not distract those who are. You can read the Tennessee Code he quotes here on the website. Garrett says she remained silent during the pledge to protest the war in Iraq. The school system has apparently lifted the suspension and will let her return to class.

Refusing to say the pledge in school may be a "right" but why would an American refuse? She's dumb and stupid thats why, and her parents should be ashamed of the way she has acted. My guess is that the school had other problems with this girl, let her show her ignorance and sit through the pledge, I'll be willing to bet that she hasn't refused the food stamps, welfare, and other "perks" she gets from the USA.

Forcing someone to say the Pledge of Allegiance is wrong. Jehovah's Witnesses don't say the pledge because it's against their religious tenets. Some don't say the pledge because they are atheists. Anyway the law was on the student's side. As long as you keep quiet & respectful while other students are saying the pledge, you haven't done anything wrong.

I does not matter if the girl gets food stamps, welfare , or any of the other "perks" the government is handing out. If she didn't want to stand for the pledge then she didn't have to. Don't call nobody out of their name if yoy don't want to called out of yours.

Ignorance in the schools

This goes to show that the people we trust to be educators are often just as ignorant of our laws, our constitution, and civil rights. Much like W-W-W-Wally on Talk Radio they think that freedom of speech, something many thousands of our soldiers have died for over the years, is only applicable if that speech is something they agree with.

i am a combat veteran who served honorably as did so many others to protect our rights, and as they saying goes " i may not agree with what you say but i will defend to the death your right to say it" as long as it's within the law. too many people sticking their big noses in other peoples business nowadays, people need to tend to their own problems, we have enough to worry about with the war ,the economy, fuel and food prices to worry about someone choosing not to say the pledge, especially to protest an unpopular and UNFINISHED (yet again, that makes 3, vietnam, iraq 1 and now iraq 2) war.bring our people home or let them do whats necessary to finish it,those who choose not to serve to protect our way of life you made your choice, do not ridicule or demean the ones who chose to defend YOU AND YOURS.remember the ones who gave all for that young lady's right to not say the pledge.
live your life let others live theirs...lest we end up being like the former soviet union or facist germany.or iraq, iran and so many others who dictate what their people can and can't do

Students in America, take note

The school exhibited fascist behavior. This is America, where we have the right to say or not say what we believe. The school could use this situation as an example of being able to exercise our freedoms, instead of acting like a bunch of Nazis.

Indoctrinated children making adult decisions
Well, I hope little Quinesha has to wear a burkha and walk three steps behind men someday. Maybe she'll take matters more seriously.
