Supporters On Chattanooga's South Shore Rally To Save The Delta Queen

Delta Queen

Has the Delta Queen made its last visit to Chattanooga?
Unless Congress approves legislation to exempt the riverboat from certain regulations, it will no longer cruise through Chattanooga. As a matter of fact, the Queen wouldn't be allowed to host overnight cruises again. Local supporters are rallying to convince lawmakers to approve an exemption for the boat.
Duffy Hudson explains the safe seas act could dock the boat for good, "which is, open sea regulations being applied to river boats. It's got a wooden structure, currently, with all of our security and all the concerns about safety and everything, they're saying that this no longer qualifies."
It's also the only steamboat that offers overnight cruises throughout the nation.

Delta Queen

If we really want to save this grand lady, we all need to rally with letters to our Congressment/women and representatives and insist they support the house bill 3852 that was presented by House Representative Steve Chabot, OH. This is asking for the Delta Queen to get her 10 year exemption. Please, for the sake of the Delta Queen and her legacy, send e-mails to all your political representatives to co-sponsor this.

Congress is Counterproductive

The misapplication of the Safety of Life at Sea law to a riverboat is one more example of bureaucracy run amok. Facts don't matter to these people, only their power to legislate another piece of American history into oblivion.
When will Americans demand that Congress quit destroying Americana and start preserving and nurturing it?

DELTA QUEEN

IF THE DELTA QUEEN IS STILL SAFE ON THE RIVER, IT
SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO TRAVEL THE RIVER. I LIVE ON THE TENN. RIVER AND SEE IT COME UP AND DOWN. IT IS ALWAYS A THRILL TO SEE IT PASS.
