The Life Of A Pregnant Prostitute In Cleveland & Chattanooga
24 year old Alecia Driggins has spent a quarter of her life behind bars. She's 6 and a half months pregnant and still working as a prostitute.
"I mean it's like this: If you're going to cheat on your wife or whatever, I'll be there for you to pay me for it," says Driggins.
"No I'm just kidding."
She isn't kidding.
For the last two years Driggins says she has sold herself on the streets of Chattanooga and Cleveland.
"I used to work at an escort service in Chattanooga. I had the same customers all the time and I made a lot of money," she says.
"For the first call [I got] 140 dollars."
Driggins grew up in Cleveland. She has no high school education and has been arrested countless times.
In a few months she will become a mother. She's expecting a girl. The father is an ex-boyfriend.
She says her pregnancy has hurt business.
"You know it's not easy for a man to see a woman pregnant and be like lets go do this.
"The three guys I usually mess with just come by and drop me off money now. So that makes it a lot easier...I just call them and tell I need money and they come here because they have wives.
"The Police know that I do it. They know that I'm careful. And they really don't mess with me."
Actually, Cleveland Police are not just leaving Driggins alone, in fact just last month she was picked up for soliciting a ride and prostitution. Detectives say they are well aware of her activities and very concerned about the safety of her unborn child.
"It's an unfortunate situation that we have a young female that's pregnant, that's prostituting here in Cleveland. If she violates the law here in Cleveland, she will be prosecuted," says Detective Brian Smith.
How much is Driggin's rate now?
"That's kind of personal," she says. "I make enough money, believe me."
Her honesty is as startling as her line of work.
In two and a half months she won't be alone.

legalizing prostitution
This is the perfect example for legalizing prostitution. I had a business on Main St. for twenty-five years, the police really never tried to stop prostitution or drugs. The police play their little games and the prostitutes play theirs. The police have a photo album of the prostitutes, they know who they are. If we were progressive enough to know we can't stop prostitution, we could keep records on the girl's health and make them get a license. Tax them and the johns, hell they tax us to death. This would place them in area where they could be controlled. The homeless bums are a bigger problem than prostitution. I am tried of picking up after bums, I can't cut the grass on my property without picking up trash, left by bums. Littlefield has created a haven for bums, I worked on the Railroad, the word gets out all over the country that Chattaxnooga will take care of the so called homeless, they ride the rails to central avenue and take advantage of the taxpayers.

I Agree with you 100% they
I Agree with you 100% they are living tax free and we have to pay taxes thats not fair!!!!!!!!!!
Mary Magdeline?
I woke up in the night thinking "What would Jesus do?" and realized there is only one thing to do--Jesus would have loved this woman with all his heart and would have helped her. Mary Mageline is considered a Saint and doesn't it seem like too much of a coincidence that this woman's baby is due in July, the month Catholics celebrate the Feast of Mary Magdeline in honor of her Sainthood? I would love to hear from Jason Law or anyone who has put together help for this young lady. Is she getting pre-natal care? Does she have relatives that are willing to take care of the baby? If not, would she be willing to have someone take care of the baby without actually giving it up? Jason, you have my email address, please contact to talk.

??
Mary Magdalene is also often associated with the woman whom Jesus saved from stoning after she had been taken in adultery (John 8:1-11) Not prostitution which there is NO biblical mention of!
can someone tell me what the point was?
I saw this on the news last night and was very intrigued at how this interview was done....she acted like there was not a camera there. ALSO...I kept waiting for the point? It seemed like a joke. She acted like it was a hoot that she was a whore...Jason Law kept giving her the rope to hang herself with...and you could hear him laughing. she almost seemed high or mentally challenged.
Another big joke was on US, the viewers..."where's the news?" The only one I can see it not being a joke to, is that poor baby. Someone please get Amanda in contact with NEW HOPE Pregnancy and see about getting her baby adopted by parents who are ready to raise children.
She admitted to blackmail in
She admitted to blackmail in the interview. Is this not illegal also? Not only is she a prostitute, she is blackmailing her "clients"!! Her child needs to be taken into state custody as soon as she is born, and placed in a good adoptive home. A child born in this situation usually becomes a product of the upbringing, give her a chance!
A Tragic Case
Wasn't it stated on the six o'clock news that this young woman was incarcerated at a very early age for another crime? Around the age of 16, I believe? Most prostitutes are victims of sexual abuse at an early age. I'm wondering if she was sexually abused while incarcerated at such an early age and from this sprung a life of prostitution? This is a sad case. But somewhere deep in this young woman's psych, I see someone who is angry and hurt and paying back society for possibly hurting her and not protecting her at an early age, even if it only hurts her in the end. In fact, I've witnessed this same quality in both young men and women who are introduced to the penal system at a very early age, where they are likely to be abused by incompetent and ill trained individuals who prey on children others who are vulnerable and under their power. They come out angry at society and to commit even worse and more violent crimes. Introducing young people to the penal system doesn't rehabilitate them. It destroys them. Then at some point they are released back into society where there's no telling how that anger and hurt will manifest itself and at what time it might just explode. Just one tragedy after another, compounding.
Help for her?
This is an awful story, but one that needs telling. Despite the inappropriate and possibly journalistically unethical question at the end of the story by Mr. Law-"What's your rate now?"-I think it was well done. Is there any way a contact line could be set up for church groups or anybody else who might like to help Ms. Driggens in her condition? Radical, I know. But these are the types of people that need help the most.

To Jason Law, who will
To Jason Law, who will likely never read this:
All you have done is to advertise for her business. You gave her name, what she does for a business, the business location, and what she charges. You even gave us a view of her, being a sample of the merchandise. You have done nothing except to increase her business.
Nothing in your story will change anything. The law is doing all they can. Public outrage will not stop anything. The story will be forgotten in a day or two, and that's all the temporary concern that people around here can muster. There is no answer. It's awful for the baby, but nothing like this will ever stop because of a news story, or in this case a free advertisement.
Of course, the real goal and accomplishment of this story is that it made money for WDEF, and that's the only reason for being out there.
I couldn't agree more! What
I couldn't agree more! What was the point of the story? It wasn't asking the community how we can help this young lady, or what will happen to her child? It was just to tell her story! How about some positive things we could do to help, or the negative affects of her actions. All this did was was create an even bigger fantasy world for the troubled young girls out there who now, thanks to this story, think they've found an easy way out!

I think the "trickthejohns"
I think the "trickthejohns" dot com
website has the right idea. Expose the clients (Johns) and prostitution will come to a screeching halt.
