Pamplona has the bulls, Chattanooga has Chihuahuas.

Running of the Chihuahuas

Chattanooga radio station The Mountain sponsored the first annual Running of the Chihuahuas Monday to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Twenty-one Chihuahuas and their owners faced off in fierce head-to-head competition to prove once and for all who's top dog.

With a "Tres, Dos, Uno... Andele!" they were off.

Rebecca Smith's two year old Chihuahua Harley was crowned, or rather sombrero-ed, grand champion of the race. She credits Harley's taste for victory to a little Beggin' Strips bribery.

"Actually did get her out in the yard today and practiced a couple of times with treats from the refrigerator," Smith said Monday.  "We saw all of the other dogs and were nervous, but she actually came through for us."

Even though a chew toy was reported down at the finish line, no chihuahuas were injured in the filming of this story.
