That news comes just as Volkswagen begins looking for thousands of new employees here in the Tennessee Valley.

Volkswagen Job Fair

The process begins with Thursday's job fair.

There are so many people responding that it caused a traffic jam downtown this afternoon.

So how busy is it inside?

WDEF News 12's Nordia Epps joins us live from the Convention Center with the story.

You might call it organized chaos.

Take a look at the crowd of people here.

Well over 2 thousand people already.

All of them are here hoping for one of a number of professional jobs at the plant..or a chance to become a supplier.

VW doesn't plan to fill manufacturing jobs for another 6 months to a year or so.

This is just a chance for people to drop off resumes and learn more about the company.

Even in a struggling economy V-W and its would be employees find this turn out startling..

Dale Wyatt, a job seeker, says:

"It's amazing. There are people wrapped all the way around the building at this point so and I went to a job fair in Kentucky in August and it was the same way. They had 600 applicants the day I was there so it's tough everywhere."

The expo goes on until 9 p-m.

If you miss it you can submit your resume online.

VW plans to fill these professional positions in 3 to 6 months.

BTW...we're talking about a salary range of 40 to 74 thousand dollars.
