Tennessee Wildlife officers Thursday morning had to euthanize a black bear that had been spotted in Dunlap recently.
Officer Dan Hicks said they found the bear inside the city limits..and that a homeowner there had been feeding it by hand.
Hicks says the animal was lethargic and appeared to be ill.
When it became aggressive it was shot.
It's now the U-T Veterinary school in Knoxville for a necropsy.
Hicks says a good rule of thumb is a "Fed Bear Means a Dead bear".
He said it could have attacked others, even children, in the search for food.
No Justice for Animals, Are you next?

But did the bear attack anyone or destroy any property?
Then why would you shoot it with a gun?
Even when people get violent they only get tasered. So why did they not just sedate the bear with a tranquilizer? And then moved to new location away from people.
The man standing next to the bear is three times the bear size.
Educate people not to feed wild animals. Because this could cause people not to call animal control if they know that all they are going to do is murder the animals.
I hope the man that shot the bear knows that karma is around the corner.
He was the Judge, Jury, & the Executioner.
Shame on you!

Another peta nut speaks out. Give me a break. "Judge, Jury, & the Executioner", really?! Are you serious?! "The man standing next to the bear is three times the bear size." You're kidding right? Have you ever seen what a pissed off black bear can do? This aint winnie the pooh, dummy! These animals should not be mixing with the general public. Yes, shame on the moron who was feeding him. He should face some sort of fine for that, but get off this BS about justice for animals. Take your insanity to peta, you'll fit right in.

OK So I can shoot wandering bears? So if I mistake you for a bear or you look at me wrong and you are near my house I can shoot you dead?
SO you did not have to call names 'dummy'. I was just simply saying that there are other alternatives than killing.
A FINE are you kidding me. Who does that help. The Government. That's a good one too.
And if you listen to the report the bear was NOT aggressive. My point was just to simply tranquilize
(to put to sleep temporally for those that don't understand big words)
the animal and move it to an unpopulated area.
So next time I see a wandering animal, I gonna get my gun and blow it away.
I could really understand if there was a bear attack, they could justify the killing. But it was simply wandering in the woods.
And as for your PETA nut, eat dez.....eat what you say "dez nuts"

I THINK IT WAS WRONG TO KILL THE BEAR BEFORE KNOWING IT WAS ILL THEY SHOULD HAVE TRANQULIZED THE BEAR AND HAD IT CHECKED OUT BY A VET.

The bear was not in the city limits,it was on Fredonia Mountain.I don't believe the bear should have been shot,it should been sent to a wildlife rehab and someone famaliar with black bears along with a vet should have determined its fate.

Right to bear arms
Killing a bear for being in the woods? A bear that you could feed by hand was killed for being at the right place at the wrong time.
Dan Hicks Killed a innocent bear, The bear was unarmed and sluggish from a hot day in June, Looking for food and water.
But what did he find instead a human with food he ate from the humans hand.
Now the bear is dead from gunshots from Dan Hicks gun.
The bear did nothing wrong but live his short life happily until Dan Hicks killed him with a gun.
One day you will regret what you have done to the bear.
