UPDATE: Collegedale Plane Makes Emergency Landing in Residential Neighborhood

The charred wreckage of a single engine plane lies in a Collegedale neighborhood, after an early morning take-off went terribly wrong. But the pilot walked away with minor injuries.
About 6:00 o'clock this morning, a young pilot training for missionary work in Africa attempted to takeoff from the Collegedale airport, but the plane clipped the top of some trees less than a 100-yards from the runway near Silver Lane.
After the plane went down, the pilot, described as being in his early 20's, climbed out with minor cuts to his face. Then, the plane caught fire.
Don Ashlock and a friend were walking in the neighborhood when they saw the plane hit the trees. They ran to help. "The pilot was just walking away from the scene ..Which is really amazing when you look at the condition of the airplane ..It's hard to believe anybody could walk out if that. Was it already on fire? As soon as he walked out, it caught on fire, yes."
The plane is owned by Gospel Ministries, Incorporated.
The NTSB will investigate.
