About 100 people now work for Volkswagen in Chattanooga, many at their Chestnut Tower office space.
Come fall, when the buildings at the plant become weather tight, the number of Chattanooga V-W employees will more than triple. April Wortham, VW Community Relations Specialist, says "while its certainly beneficial to have previous automotive experience it is definitely not necessary for a majority of the positions that we'll be hiring here in Chattanooga."
Despite word that General Motors will idle its plant in Spring Hill, Volkswagen intends to hire locally as much as possible. "We looked very closely at the local workforce and the availability of the workforce and skills already here, so we feel like we already have what we need here to have a strong workforce," says Wortham.
Hiring local not only gives VW more clout in the community, it enables the company to mold its own workforce. Those doing some of that molding will be from Chattanooga State, a partner in Volkswagen's Training Academy. Jim Catanzaro, Chatt State President, says "we hope that the building will be complete by the first quarter of next year and will be fully operational soon thereafter."
Chattanooga State also plans to ramp up employment over the next 60 to 90 days. While a specific number of instructors to be hired remains unknown, Catanzaro says it will be significant. "We are hiring additional employees, right now we're in the process of hiring a director for the training center and soon after that we'll be hiring instructors."
Catanzaro says the Training Academy will also work with Volkswagen suppliers and other manufacturers, keeping Chatt State busy after the plant opens.
The only way to get a job at Volkswagen is to submit your information on their Career Center website.

While Volkswagen up north is

While Volkswagen up north is hiring more employees down south in Dallas Tx Volkswagen is firing more employees like myself and another sales guy I worked with. They firied him because he was making too much money for internet sales & the GM at Volkswagen wanted to pocket $4,000 so he firied my friend. I got fired because i didnt have a cell phone to call my co worker, not a manager, to tell her i was running a little late, I was going to pay for my cell phone bill after work. The managers never showed up until 9:30AM I got there at 7AM. They also waited a week to fire me. Another sales guy that still works there told me over the weekend the other receptionist was messing around with one of the managers not to mention the managers & receptionist were all friends & they all use to work at another dealership together.

As you can't get to work on

As you can't get to work on time, and everything is somebody else's fault, you doubtless voted for Obama. So get a free cell phone and go on the government tit with the rest of the twenty-something deadbeats who put these clowns in office, and quitcher bitchin'.

What does this have to do
Submitted by Guest (not verified) on June 11, 2009 - 12:50am.
What does this have to do with a Volkswagon plant opening in TN? It is the OWNER who bought, built and owns the dealership that should pay more attention to his sales staff and other members of his dealership as to whats going on. Sorry you and your friend got fired, but that is because the owner allowed these things to go on, not Volkswagen. Volkswagen had nothing to do with this so please do not allow this to be a bad reflection on Volkswagen themselves. BLAME THE OWNER OF THE DEALERSHIP
