Whitfield School Board

Concerned parents and scared students. That's what Whitfield County School officials now face after three recent bomb threats.

Parents asked school board members tonight what's being done to keep their kids safe.

What some students at Northwest Whitfield High School might consider JUST a prank, isn't what parents find funny.

Parent Cindy Smith asks, "Am I going to have to pick my daughter up in a body bag?"

In the past several days...three separate bomb threats..the lasted written on a bathroom wall Monday, forced the school to evacuate students.

12-grader Lorenia Crutcher was too scared to attend class Monday.

Crutcher says, "I went to school and had a weird feeling it was going to happen again and it did."

Parent Vicki Richardson says fear also kept her daughter home.

Now Richardson and other parents confront school board members with concerns for their students' safety.

Richardson asks, "What is the protocal...when I went to the trade center the other day there was no plan."

Mom Robin Harris says she'll do whatever it takes keep her child safe.

Harris adds, "If they're writing on the bathroom walls..I'll sit out there, day in and day out. And check as a kid goes in there and go in there after them."

Parent John Sieber says, "I don't even know if I want to send my kid to school up there."

School board members have seven days to address parents' concerns.

But in a statement school officials say they are taking the matter very seriously.

They plan to prosecute the person or persons responsible for the threats to the fullest extent of the law.

They're also offering a 2-thousand dollar reward for any information leading to an arrest.

Anne Hathaway finally got smart

Anne Hathaway finally got smart.
The "Devil Wears Prada" star has ditched her Italian rapscallion boyfriend after four years of suffering through his innumerable brushes with scandal and bad publicity, it was reported yesterday.
Hathaway finally decided to part ways with shady real-estate peddler Raffaello Follieri because of the effect his business dealings could have on her blooming career, the Daily Mail of London reported.
"It's heartbreaking for her to dump him, and she's devastated that it's come to this, but she really didn't have a choice. His scandals were hurting her reputation," the paper quoted an unnamed source close to Hathaway, who stars in "Get Smart," which opens Friday.
A source familiar with the situation told The Post, "Her dad has hired PIs and has been after her for a while to do it."
Hathaway's spokesman declined to comment on the report. Follieri was in Italy yesterday and could not be reached for comment. His spokeswoman did not return calls.
The split comes a little more than a week after The Post revealed that state Attorney General Andrew Cuomo was investigating Follieri's charitable foundation.
Hathaway had, until recently, sat on its board of directors.
The 29-year-old shyster was also arrested in April for allegedly kiting a $215,000 check to a New Jersey real-estate magnate. The charges were later dropped after Follieri made good on the rubber check.
He has also been sued by California supermarket mogul Ron Burkle in Delaware courts over a multimillion-dollar joint real-estate venture that went sour.
Burkle accused Follieri in a civil suit of misusing some $55 million from the venture, in which they planned to make money buying and reselling properties owned by the Catholic Church.
The money allegedly funded a lavish jet-set lifestyle that helped catch the eye of Hathaway. They started dating in 2005.
Follieri also recently battled in a Washington, DC, court with a PR firm that represented him during the Burkle entanglement.
He was ordered to pay nearly $240,000 to the Carmen Group after he was found in default last December.
He was also sued by a New Jersey private-jet service that claims Follieri's joint venture with Burkle - Follieri Yucaipa Investments LLC - failed to pay $458,852 in chartering costs for nine flights between September 2007 and January 2008.

Bomb threats

I am a freshman at northwest and all of us are really irritated about this. We have gotten far behind in our classes and we need to catch up for our eocts and final exams. not many students are worried about these bomb threats since we know that they are hoaxs.. the parents are the ones that are more worried. my parents are telling me that if there are anymore bomb threats, i am going to go to a different high school. its not just my parents that are saying this but mulitiple of parents have said the same thing. if the school administrators dont find the culprits soon, half the school will be gone, and the schools of Dalton high and southeast will be even more crowded. we all want to graduate with our friends that weve known for a long time and moving schools would ruin that..

if i knew who it was, i would turn them in in a heartbeat. who wouldnt?

Lack of proper supervision

As a 2006 graduate of Northwest High School, I can remember clearly where the administration publicly concentrated its efforts. If they put as much energy into solving this problem as they did dictating who was allowed to wear what and who was absent from the school each day then they would have already solved this problem. I remember there being a total of six restrooms that had regular accessibility by the students; one in the gym, one in the cafeteria, and four in the main halls of the school, along with an additional faculty bathroom, totaling seven restrooms.

One way to curb this problem is to seal off all bathrooms except two (there are two that are situated around the cafeteria which is at the practical center of the school), allow access to these bathrooms only during class (there would be too high of volume between classes to accurately check for anyone writing on the halls and be sure who it was) and have these monitors check the stalls after each use. Somebody made a pretty accurate description of who it probably was in an earlier post; a white 9th grader full of teenage angst who hates the world and has some "Oh woe is me" attitude.

Good Young People

This is a very sad day when Good Students are being held accountable for the actions of a complete idiot!!!

I have discussed this issue with several "A" students and they are the one's being held accountable for the actions of (what I bet) a person (s) that has had problems in the past.

The school Admin. and local Peolice should had caught the person (s) who are responsible the second time. This really shows that the system is not ready too respond to any actions such as this.....
No way they can prove they are now, failed several time now....

I think School Admin. and Local Police should be held accountable as well as the prople responsible for the threats..

4 Threats!

i am a freshman at NWHS and today we had a 4th bomb threat. i think that whoever is responible should serve heavy jail time becuse i do not want to have to make up school time on saturdays or during the summer

I agree. You never really

I agree. You never really know if it's real or not but most likely some kids did it one day after school and it didn't get noticed until the next day. Maybe a kid hoping to miss a big test or something. I've got friends that go to Northwest and I know she gets to school as early as 7:15. Who knows it could've happened before school one morning. I just hope that it stops cause I don't want anything to happen to anyone.

COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS

I am a Junior at NWHS and I have spoken with many students over this ongoing problem. Very few parents are actually scared for their childrens' lives. Very few students are actually scared for their lives. Everyone knows it is a hoax. All of the students at Northwest want to beat up this/these kid(s). It is a waste of time and effort. It is costing the police and fire departments thousands to come and find nothing. They search every purse, bookbag, and inch of the school before they let us back inside. We have to stand outside for at least three hours every time there is a threat. Everyone is extremely irritated. Very few think it is funny. If I knew who it was, I would turn them in in a heartbeat and so would everyone else.

BOMB THREATS

I am a junior at NWHS and I have talked to a lot of the students about how they feel about this subject. Only a small percentage of students are actually scared for their lives. About ninety percent are frustrated and angry at these unknown students. There are some rumors floating around that it could be a senior prank but this is getting too out of hand. The bomb threats have cost the fire and police departments thousands of dollars to just show up and find nothing. We are evacuated about every other day now and every purse, bookbag, nook and cranny are searched thoroughly before releasing us back into the school. This process takes approximately three hours or more. We wonder if we'll ever see our fourth period class again. We are very far behind now. It is completely ridiculous, and it is getting very old. The fact that everyone's learning experience is ruined by only a select few is ridiculous. Everyone is exhausted and angry. If I knew who was doing this, I would turn them in in a heartbeat. So would most of the school population.

evacuated school

The person making the call should be easy to identify. First, it is likely a male student (males produce 75% of most school referrals, the student is likely a 9th grader (9th graders cause more referrals than the 10-12 combined), and has previous problems in school and is likely white (don't ask me why, but most bomb threats are by whites) and lastly is from a divorced family...now school officials have a workable list and it is really a small list actually. Most principals would be able to figure this out. Offer a reward...such actions cannot be kept hidden at a school and you will catch that student in short order. I could be wrong, but follow the percentages.

Sounds like the school is actually safe, but has been entertaining for this young man. My advice is to be calm and patient you will find him...if you really want to. Adults should be smarter than kids.

Two of the threats were

Two of the threats were written on the wall of the girls' bathrooms. I think that the teachers would notice if a male student went in and out of the girls' bathrooms. Other than that, I agree.

Bomb Threats at Northwest High School.

This is actually the sixth bomb threat, counting the one today. They only evacuated four times. (Which concerns me). I am concerned also that the school is letting their guard down and something will happen, putting our kids at risk. All threats must be treated the same, we never know when it is real or hoax.
