The Republican candidate for Hamilton County Sheriff hit the campaign trail today.
Jim Hammond says he'll take the next 4 months to talk with the public about its expectations for the county's top law enforcement officer.
Hammond spent 17 years as chief deputy of the sheriff's department.
He says the department needs someone who can bring it together. "It is my job to help officers and personnel that work for me find value as a person and police officer. My job is to give them the necessary tools to give them the encouragement they need to do what they were sworn in to do as a police officer."
Hammond says he'll lay out the issues important for this election on April 14th.
He faces Democratic Hamilton County Commissioner Greg Beck and Independent Jim Winters on the August ballot to replace Billy Long.
